Homework Due 7/19/16

Please read pages 1-10 of The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence. Please take notes on what you read. You should include vocabulary that you don't know, or had to look up, any questions that you have while reading, and parts of the story that you like. Your notes should also include information about the characters, where/when the story takes place, what actually happens during the story, and anything else that you find interesting. You will be graded on these notes and you will use them to write in your journal.

Updated Schedule

Students,

Remember that our schedule has changed a bit. Tomorrow, you need to be finished with your essay so that you can begin working on your presentation. On Thursday, we will take our final exam. It will not take the entire class time, so we will have a bit of time to work on presentations. Your final presentation, in front of the school, will be on Friday, after the morning break. See you in the morning.

For the Weekend

Please, complete your outline for your Final Essay. Come to class Monday with something that we can work with. You must outline all five paragraphs for Monday. Remember, you are still responsible for writing your blog entries.

For Thursday

Tonight, work on your outlines. They don't need to be perfect, just get your ideas down and fill in the blanks. Tomorrow, we have the Michigan test. Please, don't forget to write in your blogs.

Class Start Time

Starting tomorrow, we will go back to our regular schedule. We will begin class at 9 am and take a 10 minute break at 10:30. We will take 1 hour from noon to 1 pm. Please, make any necessary arrangements to ensure your prompt arrival in the morning. Thanks.

I know this is a little later than usual. For tomorrow, complete 6-3a exercises 2,5, and 6. Don't forget to write in your blogs and work on your grammar. As some of you heard, we are going to EWU all day Thursday. Be prepared to leave from the school at 9:05. Come early and bring bus fare. It costs $1.50 each way.

For the long weekend

This weekend, you have the opportunity to earn extra credit. Please open a new Google doc and answer the following questions as completely as you can.

1. What is Ramadan?
2. What does Ramadan mean to you?
3. How is Ramadan special or different in Spokane?

You will receive credit based on your written answers. As part of the assignment, please write your responses in both English and Arabic.

It's Friday! The Michigan test is over. I got essays from most of you, and I have to say that I am quite happy with them. Some of you need to put your essay in the correct format. I have sent an email to those this affects. Your task for the weekend is to make your presentation. You must have a visual aid on Monday to practice with. We will work on them as needed in class, but you must have something to show as you practice your presentation. Feel free to use Prezi.com or google slides. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Wednesday

Your rough draft of your essay was due this morning, thank you very much to those of you who turned them in on time. The rest of you need to get them turned in to me NOW. Tomorrow is the St. Patrick's Day potluck and talent show. Please prepare food to share with your classmates. If you participate in the talent show, I will give you 10 extra quiz points. The Final Draft of your essays are due on Friday. If you have not yet turned in your Rough Draft, it is going to be difficult for me to make comments and provide feedback to you. Please, turn them in.

Thursday

For homework tonight, please write in your blog, finish the APA references for the scavenger hunt, and begin research on your presentation topic. If I didn't discuss a topic with you today, be prepared to discuss it with me tomorrow.
